"Big Lex," inspired by the real-life champion Thoroughbred named Lexington, is the official mascot of the city of Lexington, Kentucky. His eye-catching blue color is a nod to Kentucky's famous bluegrass.

Lexington, known as the "Horse Capital of the World." is home to some of the world's leading equine destinations including Keeneland Race Course and the Kentucky Horse Park

Foaled in 1850, Lexington, the horse, was the greatest racehorse of the 19th century and one of racing's legendary sires. His famous skeleton is on display at the Kentucky Horse Park's International Museum of the Horse, and two books have recently been published about his life.
