Fluffy is Hagrid’s enormous and fearsome three-headed dog, a creature of immense strength and loyalty. Each of his three heads is equally menacing, capable of growling, barking, and biting with terrifying power. Despite his intimidating appearance, Fluffy is actually quite obedient to Hagrid, who raised him and knows how to handle his temper. During Harry Potter’s first year at Hogwarts, Fluffy was entrusted with guarding the trapdoor that led to the hiding place of the Philosopher’s Stone. The only way to safely approach him was to play music, which lulled the beast into a deep, magical sleep. Though terrifying to most, Fluffy ultimately proved to be one of the many magical obstacles protecting the Stone from falling into the wrong hands.
